Crisis or crossroads? Drug misuse in West Belfast, 1996
This survey was carried out to explore the nature and extent of drug misuse in West Belfast over a six month period in 1996, and involved both quantitative and qualitative methods of research. Young people aged between 12-17 years were targeted and 360 questionnaires were returned for analysis.
Main findings
- 61% of the total respondents were identified as drug users in the survey;
- of these, approximately 22% reported monthly use;
- the survey also showed that although LSD and Ecstasy were popular, the most popular single drug in use was cannabis.
