This survey was carried out in 1996 as a joint initiative between Newry and Mourne Health and Social Services Trust and the Youth Service of the Southern Education and Library Board.

This survey was completed by a representative sample of 108 16 year olds.

Main findings

  • 61% of respondents said they had tried drugs;
  • 39% of respondents said they had tried illicit drugs;
  • cannabis was reported as the most popular illicit drug used.
