Health survey (Northern Ireland Civil Service Workforce Health Survey, 2000)
The survey was commissioned by the NICS Workplace Health Committee as part of its Workplace Health Improvement Programme.1 It is one of the largest self-completion questionnaire workforce health surveys to have been undertaken in Northern Ireland. An anonymous self-completion questionnaire was sent to 28,937 staff in the NICS. Returns were received from 16,651 staff - a response rate of 57.5%
Summary of findings from the drugs section include:
- While 17% of respondents reported that they had used drugs at some time in their lives, a much smaller proportion (3%) admitted to currently using drugs.
- Just under one in 10 current users of drugs reported daily use (9.7%), while 40.4% reported using drugs at least once a week.
- A third of all respondents (33.8%) said they would be interested in obtaining more information about the issues associated with drugs.
