Young people's health and social needs in the Northern Health and Social Services Board area, 1996
This study aimed to explore the health and social care needs of young people living in the Northern Health and Social Services Board (NHSSB) area and was carried out in 1995. It consisted of three separate strands: 157 young people aged 18-21 years in higher education (HE), 75 young people aged 16-17 years who attended a range of youth provisions throughout the Board area and 157 young people aged 18-21 years randomly selected from throughout the Board area and surveyed by a postal questionnaire.
Main findings
- 68% of youth organisation respondents, 57% of HE respondents and 54% of postal respondents reported having been offered drugs/solvents;
- 50% of youth organisation respondents, 34% of HE respondents and 38% of postal respondents had taken some type of drug on at least one occasion;
- the drugs taken most frequently were cannabis/marijuana and Ecstasy.
